As a curious person, and being prompted by the new tax year coming around again, I found myself checking out what other places are charging for their counselling services.
And frankly I was shocked.
A charity, using donations to subsidise their counselling services, is charging in one area a sliding scale according to earnings. If you earn up to £50k pa, they will charge you the subsidised rate of £70 for a session online. If you are seeking relationship counselling online within that same earnings bracket, that’s £78.

And another pace called Spill, who offer employee assistance services, charge £90. (to the employer who is billed for the online support given to their employees)

These places, the same as so many others, offer 50minute sessions, and you won’t be able to choose who you work with – it will be who is available and is employed by that organisation.
The above were found online as of 4th April 2024.
Compare these if you would to working with me, with 30+ years experience, face to face (when safe again to do so here) or online, for a full hour.
And I will not artificially limit you to 6 sessions, or 8. I’ve met many people who have felt truly lucky to have received 12 sessions via employment or the NHS. We will be frequently assessing whether our work is useful, or is what you are aiming for, so again no artificial review at 4 sessions – as so often that review has rather more been aimed at limiting the input and stopping the service to you, based on those that receive 12 sessions have had at least 2 service and funding continuation arguments go on behind the scenes.
I’d like to think that what you receive here is accessible, reasonably charged, and based on your needs and aims rather than any artificial cheapest quick-fix protocol. And when another advice site offers that working with an experienced counsellor can be from £100+ a session, I do feel here at £60 for the full hour is very reasonable.

Whilst waiting lists for mental health support remain very long around the country, as reported on the BBC news podcasts in recent days, sometimes it’s more economical and timely to go direct to the counsellor you have been able to directly choose.
