Counselling is where a person meets with a professional at regular agreed times, to talk and explore matters and issues that may be troubling them. The counsellor holds the time and space for you, and does not judge you or your actions. The meetings are held as confidential* – so your story won’t be gossiped about on the number 97 bus! – so you can explore and consider your emotional state in full confidence that you are supported in your self-enquiry endeavours.

*As far as current Law allows – some rare situations may require disclosure without permission

Counselling isn’t where the professional ‘tells’ or ‘directs’ the person what to do – I won’t suddenly tell you to go buy a new car, or leave your job, nor will I ‘tell’ you who or how or what to associate with. Your life is yours, your story is yours, and I won’t be just the next person who tells you ‘oh you should have…’ because maybe you’re a bit fed up with that sort of thing by the time you decide to see me anyway.
Counselling isn’t for the therapist’s entertainment, so you really don’t have to recount in full multi-colour technicolour vivid detail any of your experiences in your past, unless you wish to do this – this is especially important for those of you who, as children, have suffered abuse at the hands of others in earlier years of life. The sort of therapy I can offer is gentle, not aimed at raking up the past, and can help you to find some peace and equanimity in your life now and into the future. The past doesn’t have to keep getting in the way.

The relevant certificates are all on display in the office, so you can see them and know that I have done the trainings and have been ‘passed’ by others more in authority than I in the realm of academia.
For those interested, the qualifications I have include:
– Mental Health Nursing
– ENB 998 Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice
– Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy
– Parks Inner Child Therapy Advanced Diploma
– BSc (Hons) Integrative Counselling

I am registered with the National Council of Psychotherapists – please do feel free to check with them. Their website is https://www.thencp.org/home
However, having said that, all the bits of paper in the world can almost be seen as an ‘as well as’ to the trust that can be built between therapist and seeker (you) as we work together on whatever it is that is giving you pause for thought in your life and relationships.

– Anger issues
– Depression
– Anxiety
– Loss and bereavement
– Childhood abuse and neglect issues
– PTSD and cPTSD
– Relationship difficulties
– Intrusive thoughts and behaviours
– Unwanted habits
I work with adult clients on a 1 to 1 basis – if you are seeking specifically relationship counselling for you and your partner/significant other together, then I would respectfully suggest a couples counsellor would serve you better in that endeavour.
I have experience in working with people who have been diagnosed with mental health conditions, like dementia, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, BPD, etc. If you have any of these, you won’t be automatically declined as I don’t view any of these as necessarily being barriers to gaining support.
I have particular interests in childhood abuse survivors, bereavement, loss, DID, and PTSD, as well as those who are finding that depression is blighting their days (and nights).
Age also need not be a barrier; my oldest client was 102, so it’s never too late!

My fees are:

Individuals – As of October 2024, £60ph. This means there’s been no increase since Sept of 2020, which I feel sure is welcomed. Payments via BACS at time of booking to confirm. Non-payment = appointment cannot be held for you. Cancellations: if you need to cancel your appointment, please give at least 48hrs notice. If you cancel within 48hrs, payment is due, unless waiver agreed for emergencies, for example. If you do not attend with no notice, full payment due. This is all aimed to assist the smooth running of the practice, to allow me to keep my fees as low as possible, and to allow for more time for you and less time on admin.

3rd party funded – where 3rd party funders do not pay for cancellations or missed appointments, payment must be made directly to the therapist by the client within 24hrs of cancelled or missed appointment to allow future appointments to be offered. In all cases, clients must abide by the stipulations of the funder around attendance, payments.

Corporate etc – £210 per hour or part thereof. Contact me to discuss
terms that apply.

Low waged/students please contact to discuss sliding scale possibilities. Concessions may be available for those on low or no income, on mutual agreement and for student counsellors needing clinical supervision. Please contact to discuss this possibility.
